Virginia Esthetics Regulations: Became effective September 20, 2007. The Grandfathering period ends July 1, 2008.
The text of the Esthetics
Regulations -
'18 VAC 41-70'(Esthetics) (Draft Final) may be accessed electronically
on the Virginia Town Hall website www.townhall.virginia.gov. The Code of Virginia Title 54.1 Professions and Occupations, Chapter 7 Barbers and Cosmetologists, may also be viewed by accessing the Legislative Information System.
All
those working in Virginia as an esthetician are required
to have a license. The Virginia Legislature adopted a
2-tier system:
Basic Esthetic License
(600 Hours) -
Standards of Practices include basic mask treatments, basic waxing, body treatments & wraps, scientific deep pore cleansing facials with machine exfoliation only.
Chemical exfoliation treatments including enzymes, AHA/BHA's, vitamin-based acids or herbal-based exfoliants may be done only with a master esthetic license.
Master Esthetics License (600 Hours) - Standards of Practices includes all chemical exfoliation, microbermabrasion, advanced body treatments, advanced waxing techniques and lymphatic drainage massage.
